Dr Adebowale Adeyemo is a paediatrician and genetic epidemiologist. He trained as a medical doctor undertaking residencies in paediatrics and genetics in Nigeria. He then moved to Howard University in Washington DC to work in genetic epidemiology at the National Human Genome Centre. His research now focuses on the genomics of complex diseases, focusing on cardiometabolic disorders in African populations. His studies include the first GWAS on hypertension in African Americans and genetic structure analyses in West Africans. He currently co-chairs the H3Africa Genome Analysis Working Group and promotes African genomics research. He co-developed the NHGRI Birth Defects Atlas, advancing understanding of disease disparities.
