Bio

Prof Moffat Nyirenda is director of the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit. He holds a PhD in Molecular Medicine from the University of Edinburgh and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. His research explores links between early-life exposures, infections, and NCDs such as diabetes and hypertension with a focus on genomics studies. He has a particular interest in research capacity building in Africa, and is Director of the Southern Africa Consortium for Research Excellence (SACORE), funded through the Wellcome Trust's African Institutions Initiative, which aims to establish a vibrant research culture in medical schools in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
