Bio
Prof. Mia Crampin is an epidemiologist and director of MEIRU. After graduating from a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Manchester Medical school she became interested in Public Health and Epidemiology. Through an appointment at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, in 1998 she took up a field epidemiologist post at the now MEIRU and has been advancing epidemiological studies through urban and rural platforms and demographic surveillance in Karonga ever since. Initially she focused on HIV and TB, however, her work now focuses on chronic disease epidemiology and prevention in African settings. She leads large-scale initiatives, including the African NCD Longitudinal Data Alliance (ANDLA), promoting data sharing for research on the origins and management of non-communicable diseases. Her work bridges community interventions and clinical care.
